Goodbye Miss Tofani!

We have had a fantastic week working on our creative project with Miss Tofani this week. We have explored lots of different aspects of Italian culture and have expressed ourselves through art, writing, drama and dance.

Thank you for all your hard work Miss Tofani!

Take One Picture

Here is the picture we will be focusing on this week in our afternoon lessons. It is called ‘The Upper Reaches of the Grand Canal’ and it shows a scene in Venice.

What does this picture make you think about? How does it make you feel? What are the people doing? Would you like to visit here?

Remember I will give a chance card to every child who has a go at responding to the painting :]

Miss Dale.

First Day Back…

I just want to say how proud I am of Meerkat class’ work in Numeracy today on our first day back. All the children were extremely focused and did some amazing work! We were looking at finding the difference, and the children were able to use lots of different methods (including cubes, number tracks, hundred squares and empty number lines) to work out their answers. Rectangles even started to set one another their own challenges, and Squares blew me away with their hardworking attitude. Well done Meerkats!

Riddle Challenge!

This week in our literacy lessons we have been looking at riddle writing and we have already become experts at it! Here are three children’s riddles: can you guess which creature we are describing?

Daisy
I am bigger than a worm but smaller than a whole piece of paper put together.
All over I feel as bumpy as a wave.
If you look closely you will see that I am as green as a wet leaf.
When I am hungry I eat leaves that are smooth or wet or even both!
At night I lay down on fluffy flowers or smooth leaves.
I live on leaves or trees.
I wiggle around by moving from side to side.
You will see that I have lots of legs.
What am I?

Mira
I wriggle along leaves and trees.
Interestingly my head is very small.
For my food I eat juicy, crunchy and delicious leaves.
My body is hairy and green!
What am I?

Keeley
If you look carefully you will know that I have many different colours.
I eat crunchy, tasty green leaves.
For my breakfast I eat insects.
My body wriggles on juicy leaves.
What am I?

Magnificent money work!

This week in numeracy we have been looking at money. We started by counting different coins and making different amounts. Then, on Wednesday and Thursday I challenged the children to use their number skills to solve problems involving money. I was blown away by the progress Ellie I made in Wednesday’s lesson. At first she used a hundred square to calculate change from 75p, but then she moved onto representing her working out on an empty number line. Keep up your hard work Ellie!

Green pen work

Across school now the children have been given green pens. They use these to respond to their marking and have a go at challenges I give them to move their learning forward. In our big write last week, these two boys decided to use their green pens to check and up-level their work! They spotted missing capital letters and added in lots of wow words! I was really impressed with their grown up attitude. Well done boys :]

Safer Strangers

DSCN0776

Yesterday the Meerkats were lucky enough to be visited by Andy, a Police Community Support Officer. He talked to us about what the children could do if they got split up from their parents or carers when they are out and about. We had a think about Safer Strangers, people like ship workers, police officers, doctors, teachers and firemen, who are safe to go to if we need help. We found it really helpful and I’m sure the children now have a good idea of the options they have in different situations.

Art Morning!

On Tuesday, the Meerkats took part in an art morning inspired by the colour orange. We did lots of painting, drawing and chalk art inspired by fires! We had a brilliant time, and we would like to say a big thank you to all of the parent visitors who came to help us :]
